Drones that have been designed and created especially for different commercial applications are different than conventional drones, due to the fact they must satisfy certain needs for their owners. The best commercial drones have a longer flight time, they are lighter and better equipped.

On the other side, most of them are capable of carrying loads on long distances and have HD cameras, which enables them to record terrain and make great aerial photos. These are also the most common applications for these drones, but there are a lot of other ones.

There is a wide range of commercial unmanned aerial vehicles on the market, but the quadcopters are most popular and most used nowadays.

When purchasing these drones, you should know what are the best models on sale, what to consider before buying, to compare the prices, and also to know what are the main disadvantages and advantages of the certain models you are looking for. You can find all these things in the following text.

The best selling models: top 5 products

DJI Matrice 100

This drone has been developed especially for people who are going to use it for commercial purposes. This isn’t a toy, so it has an actual price of $3.000+ and it comes with better features, better build quality, and extra additions.

The battery in DJI Matrice 100 is 4500mAh 22.2V, which is more than enough, due to the fact that it enables 40 minutes of flight time. Keep in mind that most drones with this construction and features can fly about 20 minutes.

Another great fact about this drone is the controlling distance, which is one of the best, among all drones, available on the market right now. This drone can be controlled from a distance of 2 km or 1.2 miles, without any problem. This addition increases the functionality of the device. In addition, this is treated as one of the best drones on the market right now, simply because it has the best flight time, it is well-made and it has advanced features.

DJI Matrice 100

The manufacturer was able to reduce the vibrations for 50%, so this unit is more stable than similar drones from the same price range.

This stunning device is made from waterproof aluminum and plastic, so it weighs about 2.5 kg. This makes it incredibly light and easy to carry. It can be used at the temperatures between -10 and +40 degrees Celsius. For a better insight into all the features this model offers, we suggest checking out our DJI Matrice 100 in-depth review.

DJI T600 Inspire

DJI T600 is one of the drones for commercial use that offers a lot of features, great design and something more. The price is high, as you may assume, and this drone costs around $3000, which makes it a bit more affordable than the aforementioned model.

The best feature is the HD 4K camera that can record amazing videos and make even better photos. You can watch live streaming on your smartphone or a tablet while the drone is in the air.

DJI T600 Inspire

The dimensions are 20 x 15 x 15 inches and the weight is 15 pounds, so this isn’t a small drone. In the package you get all components, including 16 GB memory card, so you can start using this drone as soon you get it. Although the size of the memory card is enough, if you use the drone every day, it is recommended to replace it with a memory card with higher capacity. In addition, the camera can be removed, so it won’t be damaged during transport.

Due to the fact this unit has been made from lightweight materials, such as high-quality plastics and aluminum, it can stay in the air for 20 minutes and it can reach 1.600 feet. The main application of the drone is aerial photography, mapping or similar applications, and to find out much more about it, we suggest reading our DJI Inspire 1 review.

DJI Phantom 3 Professional

As the name suggests, this is a professional drone, capable of offering impressive performances and possibilities to its owners. Despite the fact that it comes with the latest features, it is well-made and it even looks amazing, this drone is more affordable than aforementioned units.

The price of DJI Phantom 3 Pro is around $750 for today, and you get all components that are needed for this unit. After unpacking, the device is ready for the first flight, so if you don’t like to wait, this is a great addition.

DJI Phantom 3 Professional

The dimensions are 18x13x8 inches and the weight is 9.2 pounds. The materials used in the manufacturing process are high durable plastic and aluminum, which are responsible for a low weight. Thanks to these specifications, the flight time of this unit is 23 minutes and it can be controlled from a distance of 2.000 meters, which is more than most drones have to offer.

The best side of the unit is the 4K camera, so this drone is a great choice when it comes to making photos and videos from the air. On the other side, it is banned in some areas, so it cannot be used 15 miles from the White House. Always check this with your local authorities, before start using the drone. In addition, it also comes with 16 GB memory card, and if you are interested in this model, you can find out much more about the entire series by reading our DJI Phantom 3 review.

Hubsan H301S SPY HAWK

If you like affordable, interesting and practical drones, this device is the best choice. Although the price is $360, which is much lower than all models on the list, this device comes with amazing features and a great camera. The HD camera can record in 1920×1080 px resolution, so you will enjoy recordings in HD on your smartphone or tablet.

As the name suggests, this device can be used in espionage, due to the fact that it is fast, quiet and has the aforementioned camera.

The battery that powers Hubsan H301S is 1300 mAh and it can provide up to 30 minutes of flying time. This is possible due to the fact that this device has a weight of 6.2 pounds, which is incredibly low. This was achieved thanks to the use of lightweight materials, such as plastic and aluminum.

Hubsan H301S SPY HAWK

The wingspan of the device is 1000mm and the length is 750mm, so this is a small drone. On the other side, it is very interesting to fly, because this isn’t a quadcopter, so it is much faster and flying techniques are different.

The auto-return function is more than needed and a great addition to this unit. This means that the drone will return to the starting position if it goes outside the range.  As you already know, this will eliminate the risk of losing your drone, so this can be treated as a wise investment.

3DR Solo Drone Quadcopter

The 3DR Solo Drone Quadcopter comes with quite an affordable price of around $260, and it has a lot of benefits to offer. The first and the most important are the materials, used in the manufacturing process.

This device is made from aluminum and high-resistant plastic, so it is a lightweight device. At the same time, it can withstand rough landings and lighter damages. Another impressive feature is the controlling distance of 5 miles, which is 2 times more than other drones have to offer.

3DR Solo Drone Quadcopter

The flying time of the 3DR Solo Drone Quadcopter is 25 minutes, thanks to the Lithium Polymer 5200 mAh. On the other side the battery can be recharged in 1.5 hours, so your drone will be ready for the next flight. The dimensions are 16.4×16.5×9.2 inches and the weight is 11.7 pounds, so this isn’t a small drone, but it is definitely lightweight.

This specification allows amazing maneuverability in the air and makes it a real pleasure when it comes to flying. In addition, it is stable, so it can be used for aerial mapping or any other application that requires stability.

Sadly, this drone doesn’t come with an included camera, so you will have to find one. On the other side, it is treated as one of the most advanced drones, available on the market right now. It is a great solution if you want to move some items with it or to make amazing photos from the air, and to get much more familiar with it, we suggest checking out our 3DR Solo in-depth review.

Today’s and the expected future trends

As you can see, DJI drones are dominant on the market, and they are best-selling drones these days. They have occupied American and world’s market when it comes to the commercial unmanned aerial systems. Besides DJI drones, Hubsan, Parrot, Solo, Syma, and UDI are also some of the bestselling drones during the previous and this year.

If we look at the current state of the drone market, the small quadcopters that support cameras are in the greatest demand. There is a great offer both in the beginner and professional drones.

Today’s drones have the ultra-stable flight and the great flight capabilities as never before. Also, they have the futuristic appearance, nice design and many advanced features, such as the auto-return function, GPS system, 3-axis gimbal, wireless video streaming in HD, as well as great control and safety features.

Today's and the expected future trends

What can we expect in the future? It is likely that the future commercial UAVs will strive to have longer flight time and more advanced features, especially in the aerial photography. Also, we can expect many new hardware and software features.

Buying guide: what to consider when byuing commercial UAVs

You must watch carefully when buying drones for commercial purposes and take into account many factors. So, before you buy a certain model on the web, you should arm yourself with knowledge.

Logically, the first thing that people consider when buying the products is a price, besides the features. The same goes with drones. Luckily, the prices vary widely when it comes to these commercial products, so everyone can find a model according to his/her budget. Most customers buy drones online, so if you also opt for this solution, take into account the shipping costs, too.

Also, you should consider completion level. The most drone owners use ready-to-fly drones, but you can also assemble a drone yourself, using a kit drones or even make it from scratch. If you are not an experienced model builder, it is better not to complicate your life and choose a ready-to-use model.

Build your own drone kit

The next thing you need to take into account is the category. In fact, these flying devices are divided into 3 categories according to their features and performances: beginner, amateur and professional drones.

Also, the commercial UAVs come as dualcopters, tricopters, quadcopters, hexacopters, septacopters, octocopters, and the like, depending on the number of props. What models you will purchase, mostly depends on your intended use, as well as your RC flying skills and budget.

Drone for commercial use on the top of the building

In addition, think of dimensions, since these drones are available in different sizes on the market. In most cases, the small lightweight drones for beginners have a lower risk of being damaged or cause damages.

Pay attention to every technical characteristic, flight capabilities, GPS system (if any) and ability to support the cameras or other additional accessories. Therefore, look carefully at every component of the particular model, including propellers, electronic speed controllers, the main controller, sensors and gyros, motors, receiver, and transmitter. If you are going to purchase a drone online, you can usually find all these things on the Amazon website, or on the seller’s official site.

If you are going to fly your drone to capture aerial photos and videos, one of the main things you need to consider is a camera and gimbal system that the particular model supports. Most models don’t have an included camera in their composition, but they support it. If you want to capture the high-quality footage and images from the air, you should choose a 4K GoPro camera.

Gopro hero 4

Design is another important thing to look for. Although the majority drones of that ilk have a nice design, not every model is indeed impressive. Of course, it depends on the frame, externally visible parts, colors, as well as how a drone is assembled.

At last, pay attention to a battery when purchasing such a product. Many things depend on the battery capacity, such as flight time, charging time, and partly a control distance.

Not sure what model to buy?

As mentioned above, you should know how you will use a drone to know what model is best for you. If you are a beginner in this field, you need to buy an ordinary small drone for beginners. If you are a “senior” RC pilot, then you will likely look at more advanced drones for professional purposes. Also, consider the features, design, and aforementioned buying guide.

Drone model for commercial use

However, in addition to all these things, you also must know the advantages and disadvantages of these products.

Pros:

  • You can buy a commercial quad at a ridiculously affordable price, since the simplest models cost a few dozen dollars. However, the upgraded professional drones cost from several hundred to several thousand dollars. This is a great advantage because everyone can find a drone according to their budget.
  • In general, the vast majority of these drones are quite easy to control and use. Everyone can learn to fly such a device in just a few days and it doesn’t require any license. As for the recording, it requires a bit more training, but it is not so difficult if you like it.
  • They can be equipped with a variety of accessories and many models support cameras, too.
  • These drones have the great capabilities, and therefore, they are being utilized in various fields, including mapping, surveying, inspection jobs, surveillance, and many others. By the way, they can be used for both outdoor and indoor activities.
  • You can use them to start a business and make money in different ways: selling aerial photos and videos, working in aerial surveying, inspect jobs, surveillance, monitoring, etc.
  • They fit well in different surroundings and can work well in bad conditions. Thanks to their low weight and relatively small size, these drones can reach many inaccessible places.
  • There is a wide variety of commercial models on the market, so the choice is really big. These products come in different shapes, sizes, and other features. Therefore, there are models to everyone’s taste.

Cons:

  • The main disadvantage of these UAVs is a pretty short flight time. Even the best models in this category can fly only up to 30 minutes.
  • Control distance is also not impressive in most models. The best ones can be controlled from a distance of 1.5 miles, but most of them have a control distance just about several hundred meters. In fact, it is enough for people who use such drones for fun, but it is not enough for some professional purposes.
  • The good thing about these products is that they do not pollute the environment while working/flying, and hence are environmentally friendly. However, you must charge the batteries very often which may be annoying for you. Charging time is about 90-120 minutes.

So, let’s resume all that is noted above. Check out all five above-mentioned models and search for the others, too. Don’t focus on appearance, but look at the features and specifications alike. Consider the buying guide when purchasing these devices. Take into account all pros and cons, features, design, and of course, the price. You should opt for a drone that best suits your needs and skills, so buy a model accordingly.

The customer reviews may also be of help, so it would be good to read them. If you have any question about a certain model, you should contact the seller on its official website.

These are all professional drones with high quality features, no matter if we talk about quality of picture or performances. If you plan to use a drone for professional tendencies, these are the best on the market

DJI T600 Inspire is my personal best. It is unlike every other model from DJI. Its light bridge technology gives you a good, solid flight control and good elevation, heading and location on the map. Its in-air stability is so real that sometimes I can get confused if the picture is live or not.

    • One of my favorite ones as well 🙂 Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us George!

  • Jim Clark

I would choose the 3DR Solo Drone Quadcopter because it flies like a dream, no GPS signal issues at my location. Video footage is awesome, smooth, professional looking in 4K! Flight/video modes are also an awesome added feature. I would recommend this drone to anyone, even beginners.

    • Jack Brown

I just have to add that this drone doesn’t come with a camera, so I am guessing that you upgraded your solo with the latest GoPro cam, right? 🙂 But, thanks for sharing your experience with this amazing model, much appreciated, Jim!

  • Francis Bock

DJI Inspire is one amazing product. But for first-time quadcopter users, I suggest you practice on a Phantom first to familiarize yourself with the controls. The camera is way better than that of Phantom Vision. The control is very cool you an easily play with the camera settings. This thing also has a way better HD live feed than Vision+.

  • Jack Brown

Okay, that is actually not such a great advice 🙂 To get more skills when it comes to drone piloting, it is much smarter to start with some cheap drone and learn how to fly in the line of sight. Only after you become very sure in your skills, you should move on to a more expensive model, in this case the Vision+.

  • Violet McBean

I’m stuck between the DJI T600 Inspire and the DJI Matrice 100. The DJI Matrice 100 seems to be the winner when looking at the features and its whopping price of over $3000. It should be for the serious business. The other drones such as the 3DR Solo and Inspire 1 seem standard to me. Or maybe I am being influenced by the expensive prices of my top selections. If I were to invest I would choose either the DJI Matrice or DJI T600 Inspire.
